The Universidad Andina Simón Bolivar and the University of Tennessee are proud to collaborate in the presentation of this photographic exhibit. The exhibit is intended to build a more complete and heterogeneous view of the African Diaspora, making clear that the construction of the African Diaspora is not a finished totality, but rather is an emerging lived process. All components have a common base - slavery - but each exists with different and distinct paths of collective memory, territory, and identity construction.
These photographs highlight the work of photographers Edizon León and Juan García, documenting the presence of African descendents in Andean South America.
This series is available as a traveling exhibition. Please contact Sam Yates at the Ewing Gallery for more information.
